Topic: Animator of the Week: Funmi Adetola (Mar 30, 2015)

This featured brickfilmer post is part of a series of articles highlighting animators who supported the Bricks in Motion Documentary project on Kickstarter.

Funmi Adetola is a brickfilmer with a serious interest in directing feature films one day:

"After watching Spider-Man 2 as a six year old on a plane, I fell in love with movies, not sure at the time at what capacity I wanted to make them. I discovered brickfilming as an alternative art form to start making grand adventures on a smaller budget."

Funmi is a prolific brickfilmer, with 32 director credits to his name on Bricks in Motion, and he recently completed an 11 minute long short, Hollow Earth 2. The second part of a trilogy, Funmi plans to finish the series after completing work on his current Spider-Man project. The first Hollow Earth film was nominated for a Brickfilmers' Guild award.

In my opinion Funmi's best work: Link

Yeah, I thought of the rough idea, but I really liked the creative liberty he took with the story in the areas I didn't specify exactly.  Plus the theme drop is a absolutely beautiful.

I was very pleased to be able to work with Funmi on Hollow Earth 2. His execution of the first brickfilm was right up my alley, as, I am a big Sci-fi fan. When I got the rough cuts of the sequel, I was blown away. The story certainly built upon what had already been established, and, continued to dive deeper into the fictional world he had created. The score I created for Hollow Earth 2 only proceeded to emphasize the emotions, drama, and action that was already in the story and on screen - almost as a backseat to Funmi's great visuals and plot.

In looking at his other films, it's easy to see that he's improving with each brickfilm, refining his skills as both a director and an animator. It's a progressive trend that only makes me more and more excited for his next films!

Funmi is an upbeat and hardworking brickfilmer, and it's a pleasure to talk to him here on the forums. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come out with next (I believe that's your Spider-man series?). Hollow Earth 2 is probably your best to date in my opinion.

I applaud Fummi for creating an 11 minute brickfilm. While it wasn't the absolute best brickfilm I have ever seen, I do think that it is impressive, and I enjoyed it. Keep up the good work, Fummi. mini/smile

I, too, loved Hollow Earth 1 and 2.  I also love the longer films.  Great job, Funmi!
