That is best answered in the original announcement thread, which can be found here.

•    Your work must be entirely made & submitted within the 72 hour period.
•    The mod elements must appear in your film. (specifics below)
•    Your entry must contain at least 30 seconds of Lego or similar building-block toy animation.
•    No mature/explicit content is allowed. Entries featuring objectionable content will be immediately disqualified.
•    Make sure to keep your entry unlisted before the deadline has passed. (And please publicly share it with the world afterwards!)

Feel free to make brickfilms featuring copyrighted/trademarked properties.

To prove your film was made within the time limit, it must contain the modification elements. For SHAC 2, they are:

Color Mod: Tan & Sand
This is a combination of a tan brick connected, touching, or overlapping a sand-shaded brick. Acceptable colors are: Tan, Dark Tan, Sand Red, Sand Green, Sand Blue, and Sand Purple.

If you are unsure if a color is acceptable, consult the bricklink color guide or share a picture with Dyland through email, twitter, or in the BiM live chat.

UPDATE: Any combination of the previously listed colors is now acceptable to count for the mod element.

For example, Tan on Dark Tan and Sand Green on Sand Blue (combinations that previously wouldn't have worked) would now also be acceptable.

Letter/Number Mod: 2
This is the number two. It can be represented as either an arabic numeral, “2,” or as the roman numerals, “II” or “ii.” It cannot be inserted digitally, however. This mod must be present in your original shot(s) to count.

Sound Mod: Beast Footstep
Ah, Beast. My favorite brickfilm. The “Beast Footstep” is a unique footstep sound effect originally used in the Nathan Wells brickfilm “Beast.” Check it out sometime if you haven’t seen it – but only after the contest!

Here's a link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2m45j6dm8rcfk … d_2019.wav

This sound must appear at least once in your film (excluding the credits). Digital manipulation, reversing, and other alterations are encouraged! Just be sure that it is still clearly that sound.

As a fun challenge, try to use this sound as something other than a footstep. (Optional)

To Reiterate:
Your film must contain either the Color Mod, Letter Mod, or both in every shot. AND you must also include the Sound Mod at least one time in your film.

To submit, please send an email to: [email protected] before 12pm (midday) EST, Monday March 11th, 2019 with a working link to your film (& password, if on vimeo) with this subject:
SHAC, [Your preferred credited name]’s “[Title of entry]”

For Example: SHAC, Nathan Wells and Zach Macias’s “Dear Cousin”

As the contest continues, I shall list submitted entries below. If your film has any problems (such as missing mod element, or public video) the text below shall be italicized & the issue will be stated alongside. If your film is not yet on the list, be patient. I’ll get to it as soon as possible! mini/smile

It has been decided that BrickAnimator724's entry, The Weird Pool will also be accepted, even though it was missing the mod in two shots.

The film was clearly made within the time allotted (the intention of the mod rule anyway), and I wouldn't want to see it punished because of it.

That brings our total number of entries to 25. Here's the playlist.

Here we go!!!

Re: SHAC 2 Starts NOW!

Y'all ready for this???

Re: SHAC 2 Starts NOW!

I don't have the sand color.

Re: SHAC 2 Starts NOW!

Sets (in order of recent to old) that contain acceptable sand colors:

Sand Green

Sand Red

Sand Blue

Sand Purple

Sand shaded bricks also come in some bulk Lego tubs if I'm not mistaken.

Re: SHAC 2 Starts NOW!

Good luck to all the entrants! Remember: if you don't have the colors, just put a "2" somewhere in the shot.

YouTubeTwitter ▪ go check out Brickfilm Rewind 2019, silly!

Re: SHAC 2 Starts NOW!

Tan & Sand are the same?

Re: SHAC 2 Starts NOW!

It's already far too late since the contest has already started, but I want to criticize the choice in colour mod.

While perhaps this may prove beyond a single doubt that each film was created within the time limit more so than ever before, using sand colours, even by including all sand colours, as part of the colour mod is unreasonably complex and cumbersome.

By using more basic colour families for the mod in these sorts of contests (red, green, blue, orange, yellow, black, white, grey, and perhaps beige/tan) one ensures that nearly everyone with even a fairly simple LEGO collection has a full opportunity to create something. However, by using rarer colours, like purple, pink, and more specific esoteric colours (such as sand), one begins to remove the opportunity for certain people to enter the contest.
And, even for those who do have some of these more specific elements, they are often not plentiful. And thus the difficulty of integrating the mod into the story may add a pointless challenge to an already taxing event.

I myself have several sand elements, but, even so, these only comprise a small percentage of my own bricks. And putting them in every shot in a way that feels natural isn't something I'd want to deal with during a timed contest.

It is my hope that no one organizing a timed brickfilming contest ever does this again.

Re: SHAC 2 Starts NOW!

I'm sorry you feel this way, Squid. My intention with the sand color mod (and the SHAC color mod in general) was to change up the palette a bit. I wanted it to serve as less of a 'oh, I can just throw this into the background' and more of a 'let me integrate this into the set/character/visual stylings of the film.' IMO, too many timed contests go with bright, frankly unattractive color pairs that, I'd argue, pose just as much of a challenge to integrate nicely into a film.

Sand green and sand blue are fairly common colors nowadays, having appeared in a combined 121 sets in 2018/2019 alone. Most of those sets are still on store shelves. Plus, pieces in those colors are readily available at Lego store pick-a-brick locations and can easily and cheaply be picked up in Lego creator tubs.

And to give everyone a fair chance, regardless of the size and scope of their collection, the letter/number mod is also an acceptable mod option. It doesn't have to be used in tandem with the color mod; An entry could qualify using only the number mod, for example.

SHAC is a weekend-long contest, that gives just about every time zone a full Saturday and Sunday for creating - with a little bit of left over change distributed over Friday and/or Monday. That's more than enough time to integrate the mod or find a cheap set that could be of use for this contest. I believe the color mod is fine as is, and have already seen several brickfilmers integrate it well. However, if there's enough animosity over the issue this year, I will certainly refrain from using such out-of-the-ordinary colors for future SHACs.

Re: SHAC 2 Starts NOW!

Awesome!!! I'm really excited. Although a bit late, I'm gonna rush to it right away mini/bigsmile mini/bigsmile

To comment on what Squid said, I think it gives contests in general more of a challenge for people to be creative and experiment with what they have (or don't have!). It is true that the contest is time-stretching, but I think that's just part of the brickfilming process! And also, you have the option to include the number mod instead, so I think there's still a way for everyone to join the contest. Anyway it's just what I was thinking.

Cheers for creativity!!!

Good luck to everyone! mini/cat

Re: SHAC 2 Starts NOW!

If I put the sound mod in a shot, do I still have to include one of the other mods?

Re: SHAC 2 Starts NOW!

Yes. You need to include either the color mod, number mod, or both in every shot. Plus include the sound mod at least once in the film. (but not in the credits)

Hope that helps. mini/smile

Personally, I was very worried at first that I would have a really hard time integrating the MOD element, but surprisingly, I have had little difficulty doing so and I really like how the colors don't stand out so much!

Because of this, I don't know exactly if I like the idea of using less common pieces for a MOD, but this contest MOD worked out for me this time.

Note: The original post has been edited to include a revision of the color mod this year.

Let’s do this!

Re: SHAC 2 Starts NOW!

Dyland, pertaining to the number mod, wrote:

It cannot be inserted digitally, however.

Would it count if I was to build the number in bricks and then insert that digitally? Or does it have to be a physical part of the set?

It has to be physically present because otherwise, someone could animate their film beforehand then insert the mod-element.
