Topic: Multiple roles for a Christmas short

Hi!

UPDATE: Auditions are now CLOSED for this project. Thank you to all who showed interest in it!

I'm attempting a Christmas short and am scouting for voices. I'm considering a few different source and will update the list as the roles are filled. If interested, send your test line(s) to: [email protected]

- must be a clean recording (no pops, huffing or BG noise)
- I'll need the lines ASAP
- no specific format (as long as I can open it)

-

Gerry the Elf (child/young adult, male (maybe female?))
30+ lines
Ideally a ‘deeper’ nasal sound. Something like Herbie from Rudolph (no actual singing required, maybe some humming): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9q41SwDf2CU or the Munchkin mayor at 1:00 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPIdRJlzERo (also 10:15 in this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB-ZzyNTpQo).
Always upbeat and positive like Flanders from The Simpsons, Gerry is the more detail-oriented of the stable elves. Even when things are going badly, he says it all with a smile. Don’t do any pitching/tempo adjustment, I can do that on my end.

Test line: Whew! SOMEONE’S got a knot in their candy cane, let me tell you…!

Jerry the Elf (child/young adult, male (maybe female?))
10+ lines
Ideally a ‘deeper’ nasal sound. Something like Herbie from Rudolph (no actual singing required, maybe some humming): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9q41SwDf2CU or the Munchkin mayor at 1:00 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPIdRJlzERo (also 10:15 in this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB-ZzyNTpQo).
Always upbeat and positive like Flanders from The Simpsons, Jerry has a more innocent, can-do approach to life than his pal Gerry. He’ll drop the most devastating revelations and not even clue in to the fact there’s a problem.

Test line: They were just left out in the cold! (then pouty, like talking to a baby:) Yes you were, you poor things…!

News Co-Anchor (adult male)
3-4 lines (one is a multi-sentence paragraph)
Ideally a deeper, ‘manly’ voice. Nothing gruff. Like Harold Dow (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJORt847j-M)
Traditional news anchor, speaking clearly in that slightly stilted way with artificial pauses for dramatic effect. Not full Shatner! Energy-wise, think more a fun morning news show than the gritty news at 11. In the scene, he’ll move toward a more relaxed, emotional conversation toward the camera as a heartwarming ’news flash’ unfolds.

Test line: ..experts are calling this ’The Christmas Santa Forgot’ - no sound of hooves on rooftops and no presents under the tree.

News Co-Anchor (adult female)
2-3 lines

Ideally a slightly bubbly, business-like voice. Nothing squeaky or valley girl. Like Kelly Ripa (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7FcdJINwfE), Ainsley Earhardt (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qh3L00Rqkw)
Traditional news anchor, speaking clearly in that slightly stilted way with artificial pauses for dramatic effect. Not full Shatner! Energy-wise, think more a fun morning news show than the gritty news at 11. In the scene, she’ll move toward a more relaxed, emotional conversation toward the camera as a heartwarming ’news flash’ unfolds.

Test line: We’re being told now that beginning late last night, hostilities all over the world have miraculously ended.

Death (Horseman 01, adult male, ageless)
3-4 lines

Ideally an ageless/deep/hoarse/raspy voice. I can put echo & reverb on it unless you are good at that sort of thing.
This is the reaper himself. The sound of the voice sound be as serious as you’d expect but the two scenes are played for laughs so he’ll have more mundane, contemporary dialogue.

Test line: Well deserved… now, let’s discuss diversity in the workplace.

Conquest (Horseman 02, adult male)
2-3 line

Ideally a deep, rough voice with a forceful, booming, take-all-comers feel to it. Like Brian Blessed (the guy in armour, around :24 sec): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm5GCQm5cvE
Imagine the God of war who is just thrilled by the ‘contest’ aspect of war and that it’s always going on somewhere in the world.

Test line: *big laugh* You win this year!

Civil War (Horseman 03, adult male)
2-3 lines

Ideally an older, smooth, suave, sneering voice. Like Peter Ludlow (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkPEcnPL_mg), King Edward (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjjpMdL1nnE) - but an English accent is not required!
Imagine a billionaire who’s all smiles with his pals but who has utter contempt for the ‘little people’. In one scene he’s getting yet another award and he just assumes he deserves it ‘for all his hard work’.

Test line: Thank you… no, you’re too kind…

Famine (Horseman 04, female, ageless)
1-2 lines

Ideally something unpleasant. Not shrill, but raspy/witchy are okay. I can’t find a suitable reference.
Picture someone wasting away for centuries. Dried out, diseased and decaying. She’s snarky and bitter.

Test line: Maybe try Finland for once!

Santa (older male)
1 line

Ideally the sort of warm, grandfatherly voice you’d imagine. Like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xrZQWZeA0Y
In his one scene, Santa will be trying to keep his cool as he deals with a particularly naughty kid.

Test line: *struggling* Ohhhhh, you are such a naughty little fellow!

Thanks for looking!
