Welcome to the EASTER Contest!

Are you ready to Enjoy A Short Transient Event Right-away?
Flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, and the sun is shining! It’s springtime; it’s Easter time! Which means another BiM contest is here to keep you holed up in a small, dark room all day. Which, all things considered, is probably a good idea right now.

Once again, I’m privileged to host EASTER, (I did it 7 years ago…how time flies!) which has recently been upgraded to an official Bricks in Motion contest. I’m excited, and I hope you’re ready for another year of fun, frolicking, and filming too.

DATES:

EASTER 2019 will begin on March 28 and end April 11.
You have two full weeks to complete and submit your film.


THE RULES

EASTER is a wonderful contest for a wonderful time of year. It’s always a load of fun and the specific quirks of this contests always give rise to unique and creative films.  This year, however, things will be a little different, so be prepared for a new twist. This year, EASTER will not be limited by the usual 20-second time limit, but a very different limit. This will allow some new avenues of creativity that create some very unique films.

So stay turned, don't build anything yet, and keep your eye out for the contest announcement thread for the rest of the details.

Are you allowed to enter something that you've made before that's not public yet (if it fits the "very different limit")?

Um, I wouldn’t assume so, I mean it’s a contest with a limited time, I think they want you to enter a movie that you made within the allotted time.

Then there would be no point of the contest.

That wouldn't be in the spirit of the contest, BrickAnimator... Also you dont know what kind of things they're going to announce later (such a mod elements or some other twist) that you need to know to make a good (or even qualifying) entry.


In other contests, finishing entries may be okay, but in EASTER, that's not in the spirit of the contest.

Short Answer: No.
It wouldn't be fair for those that only spent two weeks on their entries if you suddenly enter something you've spent the last year working on. Plus, a pre-made film won't be able to properly channel the creativity and direction that this contest will try to foster.

Hey Rioforce, I just realized that March 28th, the day the contest starts, will be the 6th anniversary of when you first joined BiM!

Can you submit stop motion videos made using Blender? I am just starting out and I think the competition will be a good way for me to get better at making videos, but since I make them using the PC I wonder if they will be eligible?

Good question.
Because this is a stop-motion website, our contests require submissions to be primarily stop-motion animation with Lego or a Lego-like product.

For example, the wording on our last contest, THAC 2020, read like this:
"Your entry must consist of primarily LEGO (or similar building block toy) stop motion animation. Live action, CGI, and hand drawn animation are allowed but stop motion must be the primary focus."

This may be the perfect opportunity for you to branch out into physical stop-motion animation! I've seen some incredible films done with few resources. If you don't have a webcam or DSLR, your phone camera can even work. Getting a stop-motion app, your phone, and a little Lego is all you really need to leap in. You've even still got a few more days to practice up before the contest even begins! You can do it!
