Re: The Animation Challenge
Hi Jampot, thanks for the suggestions, I would like to point out tho, as far as I know Walking through a swamp has been done, I saw the animation challenge video to it. For the rest interesting, but rather hard for us more novice brick filmers don't you reckon??
These all have to do with transformation and having a giant in minfig world, I must say this one I am keen to see one day!
However I do like the idea, of over-sized weapon, the time loop, backpack/jetpack flight!
Also few questions, whats a lorry? Helicopter head? whats a Midas torch?
Also why are they silent edits? And how are we the general public able to see whats done and whats not done? It's much more helpful if we can see what's done.
It'd be so helpful for someone to get onto this truthfully speaking I and many others I'm sure would love to see an updated list of done challenges.
But thanks none the less!
Sincerely,
Divine.
Basically, when a mod edits something, it's normally a silent edit, in that the post doesn't say that it's been edited the way it does if a regular member does. It's up to the mod to either turn silent editing off, or to add a reason for their edit in the post itself, or both. A mod must have edited the front page and had silent editing on my accident. It's not a big deal, don't worry about secret stuff going on behind your back: if a mod makes an edit that affects you in some way, or changes something in one of your posts, then there'll be a line or two like this:
Mod edit: please keep bad language to a minimum.
That's just an example (we actually have filters in place for removing bad language, I just couldn't immediately think of another example).
The idea with helicopter head is flight, using helicopter propellors on the character's head. There were some LEGO monster sets that had heads like these about a decade ago, but it's easy enough to make one for a minifigure (just put a 1x3 flat brick on its head?). And the Midas touch comes from King Midas, a legendary Phrygian king who turned whatever he touched into solid gold, which would make for a cool effect if it was brickbuilt rather than VFX. A lorry is a truck. As far as difficulty goes, while I get what you mean, isn't it also a good idea to try and challenge yourself to new techniques? It is an animation challenge after all, and even I regularly come across challenges that I find difficult. But it's all part of a learning process: one of the reasons we're all here is to improve as brickfilmersand coming up with inventive new animation techniques is one way of doing that.
Like I said, Divine, there's nothing to stop you doing previous animation challenges yourself, just for fun. I normally try to incorporate some into the regular effects test I do (most of which don't make it to YouTube) or into my actual brickfilms as good practice, but the general consensus here is to keep going with new themes.
The list is up-to-date up to May, but I will try and get around to adding more recent challenges some time this week.
