Topic: Panoramic Photography

Have any of you tried this out? It's pretty cool, and you don't really need a new lens for it, just iPhoto/photoshop to crop it.  maybe even MS paint, i don't know.

I just cropped off the top/bottom of some wide shots for these.

I'm starting to like Panoramic. It makes things a lot more epic.

These photos were either taken on trips to the wilderness or at sea, whale watching.  Enjoy.

Interesting effect, though they lack the distortion that true panoramic shots would possess. Looks cool. I'd have to say the last three were my favorites.

Out of curiosity, you don't happen to know what species of gull that was in the background of the pelican shot, do you? I broke out my field guide but I'm drawing a blank...

Those are pretty neat, I like the pelicans, though to me they do look like cropped wide shots and not panoramic photos; the perspective reveals that they clearly don't have the same extremely wide field of view as a real panoramic photo.  You can create decent panoramic photographs by stitching together individual photographs taken with a tripod or something, rotating the camera a little each time.  I've had varying degrees of success with this, manually stitching the photos together in Photoshop Elements, but I think that photo stitching software designed would simplify the process a lot.

Those are all very nice, but not very panoramic-looking. Here is a test I did a few years ago stitching eight pictures together. It's decent, though the edges where the pictures are blended together are definitely visible in places.

I see now.  I though Panoramic just meant the picture was very, very wide, compared to its height.  Wrong conception of panoramic.

Whoever enters a (decent) panoramic brickfilm shot into the cinematography challenge gets a treat.
