"Your film should portray someone who is Heroic, or someone who is Villainous. You as a director must decide to tell a tale of virtue, or a story of evil."

My first "long" film, and hopefully not my last! Made over the course of two months, Frankenstein was a "villain" film made for the Heroes and Villains contest at Brickfilms.com, and was voted 1st out of 19 movies.

One of the most exciting things about making this movie was getting very strong reactions from a lot of different people of different ages. I was blown away by some of the positive and very kind reviews.

Because of the "villainous" subject material, however, there were also negative reactions, especially at the live showing. Josh described what happened:

". . . There were audible gasps during the knife part. As the film progressed, children became visibly upset, as did their parents . . ."

I'm saddened that some people didn't enjoy my film, but at the same time I'm very happy that my Lego animation was actually "scary," since it was supposed to be.

I'd like to thank Josh, for running Brickfilms.com, everyone that wrote articles and motivated me with useful information on the forums and everyone who reviewed the film. This place really is unique.

Turn out the lights, turn up the speakers, and enjoy!

Re: Frankenstein

I enjoyed this when it debuted and I still enjoy it today. From the simple piano at the beginning to the convincing voice acting, this film remains a pleasure to watch.

Anybody who didn't enjoy this film was just trying to hide that they watched the film and were checking under the bed ever since.

Re: Frankenstein

Good to see this film again - it's definitely a classic.

The first time I saw this, I was checking around the basement room afterward.

Re: Frankenstein

Congrats on almost ruining the entire thread, guys.

Anyways, Nos, it's great to see you back here and submitting old films to the directory. I think this film is your best film to date. Everything from the solemn piano score to the brilliant sound design to the moody lighting and cinematography (the sunset sequence was always one of my favorite scenes) help create a very dark atmosphere, one that gets under your skin and stays with you the whole film. Much like Hali's Good Company: Redux, what make this such an effective horror brickfilm is that it manages to achieve an internal and visceral sense of fear in the viewer. One of the brickfilming classics.

Re: Frankenstein

I still absolutely love this film, one of the most influential brickfilms for me, ever. I love it.  <3

Watch this at night with all the lights off and you're guaranteed to be freaked out. A masterpiece.
