The After Life Experience - BIM 2010

Youtube

Here's my entry that I'm very surprised (and proud) at how fast I churned it out, while still making it descent. mini/smile

Re: BiM 2010: The After Life Experience

Excellent, other than your camera color problem it was good.

the only plot problems were:

Spoiler (click to read)

~The accident was a little strange, I have never seen a whole car wheel fly off.
~He technically didn't die so it wasn't an afterlife experience.
~If he was a good man, why was he tortured?

Re: BiM 2010: The After Life Experience

Some of the effects weren't great, like when the flowers fell down you could see fuzzy edges and stuff, but the animation was good and the story was interesting. The goofiness of how he "died" was my favorite part. mini/tongue

Nice job! mini/smile

Thanks, bro. And yes, I do need a new camera. mini/wink

Here's my response to your points:

Spoiler (click to read)

1, HE WAS DRIVING REALLY FAST no I'm kidding, it's just usually when I get an idea I just go with it without asking any questions, which is something I probably should do in the future, ask myself how realistic it is that the situation could occur in real life. I'm glad you pointed that out. mini/smile
2, I guess you could say he got a tour.
3, I expected people would come around with this question. Where he was was neither heaven nor hell or limbo, he was in a place that's just another interpretation of what the after life could be like. So yeah, it's just another idea.

Re: BiM 2010: The After Life Experience

The animation is great, the VFX were decent, but altogether it was a nice entry.

Re: BiM 2010: The After Life Experience

The excellent lighting is worth mentioning as was the animation. Quality of animation is often overlooked in the judging but it scores big points in my books.  The scene in the house at the start was very fluid and believable and the lighting just made it better.
It did look like you rushed it in spots where the quality dropped.
It's a shame you ran out of time. Perhaps the last Tim and Fred release could have waited?

I facepalmed when he was in a white expance after the accident, but you rescued that.
The lightning and medical treatment was a stroke of genius, I love that bit the most. Even if it wasn't original.

Overall it's a brilliant entry. Fantastic work and a very enjoyable film.

The moment he was revived, I was like: "That's it?  No, there has to be more!"

This had so much potential, so much more you could have added, it could have been a full feature, but our adventure ended after 3 minutes.  There's a lot in this "after-life" you could explore.  But I guess within a contest deadline, you can only cover so much.  I'd say, if you wanted to, you can do much more.

Aside from the keying (a lot of people seem to have edge problems, wonder why), it had excellent animation, although I find some of the movements overly exaggerated (like the woman pulling out the chair to sit down.

Edit:
Avant-Garde-worthy?  Absolutely.

Re: BiM 2010: The After Life Experience

Fantastic lighting, brilliant animation...

bad camera.... grrrr...
But seriously those technical qualities were brilliant. Now onto the story...
I liked the concept of the story, but the whole things pacing seemed way too fast. Normally when you see a 4-5 minute brickfilm you usually think it's pretty long, I found this blazingly fast for some reason. Maybe dialog would have given it a bit more length to it. All in all, I liked it a lot 4/5

Re: BiM 2010: The After Life Experience

Very well executed. I could see a bit of a rush though. I could see some aspects that wern't as good as our other great entries. Nevertheless you did great, good animation, pretty good story, and great effects. 4/5. Third best entry so far.

Re: BiM 2010: The After Life Experience

Very well done!  The animation was quite good, as well as the idea.  However, there were some things that bugged us.  For example, the camera quality and the flickering of the chroma-keying was a bit annoying.  Other than that though, congratulations on a great entry!

Jocopoco's, and that one with the large minifigs, who got the new house and couldn't even fit in was second.

Re: BiM 2010: The After Life Experience

You might want to submit this to the Avant-Garde contest, because you haven't.

Just fyi.

I've tried twice already to post it as a video response, I guess that isn't going to work. mini/blankexpression
