The Hero - BiM 2010 Avant-Garde entry

YouTube
Vimeo

This is my entry into Avant-Garde.
When I first wrote the script back in June, I had no idea this would be an Avant-Garde entry. After I had gotten all of my voice actors, etc., I started to think about entering it into AG. I asked a few people, who all thought it was a good idea. I formally decided to enter this into Avant-Garde 7 days before the deadline, which didn't give me much time to animate a four minute film. I worked very hard for the 7 days, and although this isn't my best animation, I feel that this is one of my best films story-wise. Also, there's symbolism in this film. You might be able to find it. (It'll be easier for those who know the history of brickfilms.com mini/wink ) Please PM me what you think the symbolism is, and if you get it right... COOKIES FOR EVERYONE! mini/bigsmile

The reason why I entered "The Hero" into Avant-Garde is because it isn't like ordinary westerns. It's unique. It's an Avant-Garde western.

I'd like to thank Awesomeonomy, thefourmonkeys, Hazzat, Peanut, Fancypants, MooCJ, my family, and most importantly everyone who is putting this contest on.

Enjoy my entry, which I put a lot of sweat and tears into.

Placed 18th in AG.

Re: BiM 2010: The Hero

This was my favorite Avant-Garde entry so far. It was great and comical. Only complaint is that the people's lines were quite strange in quality (some person's lines echo, the other's is clear, etc.).

I really loved this brickfilm. Good job!

Re: BiM 2010: The Hero

I am disappointed that you cut out the part where the monkey falls off of the horse and swears. That was a cool film man, keep up the good work! I have some good competition...

I do not care about your opinion, unless it has to do with it needing more ponies.

Re: BiM 2010: The Hero

mini/frustrated I want my 4 to 5 minutes back so I can waste it elsewhere.

It was like watching Heroes from Season 1 to 3.  Great beginning and it just went downhill from there.  Were the inconsistent sound quality deliberate?  Show some respect for your audience and demand better quality from your actors.

Avant-Garde-worthy?  I guess, if you weren't expecting it. mini/wink

Re: BiM 2010: The Hero

Not particularly avant-garde, but hugely entertaining. I seriously cracked up at the second hero's (the one with the cap) attempt. I even chuckled at some of the cartoony animation techniques (like the tyrant changing his clothes).

Not sure I'd go that far, but yes, I was very disapointed. It didn't really fit the theme, and the story was too repetitive. Great voice acting, and pretty good animation. I was just let down, by how good I thought that it'd be. 3/5.

Re: BiM 2010: The Hero

Despite not being very Avant-Garde it was fairly entertaining. The "Heroes" were quite laughable as was the overlord. The inconsistent sound quality was distracting and subtracted from the film however.  Over all good job 4/5. mini/wink

Re: BiM 2010: The Hero

I didn't really like it personally. Not my kind of humor I guess and I didn't think it was very avant-garde either. Also you shouldn't point out to everyone that there's symbolism in the film, I assume you're very proud of the sybolism because you even put it in the end credits. But pointing it out that much just makes it stupid.

:( I'm so sorry I wasted your time.

The reason why I don't demand better quality from my actors is because usually when I do that they never get them back to me. But next time when I have more time than a week, I'll do that.

If you feel this way about my film, I sincerely apologize.

Yes but nobody would know there's symbolism if I didn't tell them XD

Thanks for your comments everyone. :)

Hope I didn't sound to harsch there, pulling off a 4 minute film in one week is pretty impressive.

No worries, I actually like hearing people's opinions. mini/smile Gives me an idea of what I should improve on in my next film.

I'd like to add that I feel that this film could have been better if I were to have made it in a longer time period, I sort of wish I didn't enter it into this contest so I could have made it better.

No cameo of my minifig? mini/tongue
I appreaciated the cartoony animation style, got a few laughs out of it, it started pretty good, but it got a bit messy at the end.
Fairly enjoyble long random.

Thanks, I do notice that it got messy in the end, I'll make sure I don't rush endings next time.

Re: BiM 2010: The Hero

Very enjoyable!  I'm not sure if this film fit as well with this contest or if it would have been a better entry for Thac 7 (unexpected) mini/tongue  Anyways, for animating it all in one week, it was pretty good mini/bigsmile

Re: BiM 2010: The Hero

I didn't enjoy it as much as Amphibian Appendages, but I still got a good chuckle out of it.  If you had started it earlier I think you could have had an amazing film (the ending was a little weak).  I really enjoy your wacky, cartoony sense of humor! mini/smile
