I considered making the buildings out of individual bricks, by duplicating them etc but that would kill my computer. So I came up with this. The buildings are supposed to look as if they are made out of lego bricks, but they are too far away to notice. Now I've considered texturing them with windows or something. Because they look quite bland at the moment.
Ratboy: I'd recommend texturing them with a bump map (or "normal map" in some apps) that looks like a pattern of interlocking LEGO bricks. At this distance you could still get the look of them being built from individual bricks but it wouldn't kill your computer, either.
BG: The ship took me maybe 5 days to make, working most afternoons as well as evenings. The whale took a couple of evenings.
On a side note if anybody would like to see the progressions of these two models, check out the Majhost folder.
