Re: The CGI Thread

Yes.  Although some of them are based on photographs of metal, etc.  Texturing it took me a couple of days though, I still had to hand-paint the maps for the wear and dirt on the edges of things.

Re: The CGI Thread

That is AWESOME Smeagol!!! mini/bigsmile  Everything about the ship is perfect!  From the shape to the textures, it's 100% amazing!

Re: The CGI Thread

I don't have a tablet, I used a mouse, but it was mostly drawing lines anyway on the edges of things and then doing some touchup in Photoshop on the texture maps.

Looking forward to seeing how those windows turn out.

And you know what every good spaceship needs.  A WHALE.

But seriously, that's actually really cool. Is it for a project or are you just practicing?

Re: The CGI Thread

It's all for a live action sci-fi film I'm working on pre-production for.  Very visual effects heavy.

There will be whales.

Re: The CGI Thread

Are you gonna texture it or are those colors on purpose?
Nice job anyway mini/wink

I considered making the buildings out of individual bricks, by duplicating them etc but that would kill my computer. So I came up with this. The buildings are supposed to look as if they are made out of lego bricks, but they are too far away to notice. Now I've considered texturing them with windows or something. Because they look quite bland at the moment.

Re: The CGI Thread

I love your work Smeagol. mini/love

And I thought that you wouldn't have had any time to make that whale because of how long it would take to make the ship. I truly am slow at 3D designing. (Or my OCD about getting everything perfect gets in the way too much)

Re: The CGI Thread

Ratboy: I'd recommend texturing them with a bump map (or "normal map" in some apps) that looks like a pattern of interlocking LEGO bricks.  At this distance you could still get the look of them being built from individual bricks but it wouldn't kill your computer, either.

BG: The ship took me maybe 5 days to make, working most afternoons as well as evenings.  The whale took a couple of evenings.

On a side note if anybody would like to see the progressions of these two models, check out the Majhost folder.

Re: The CGI Thread

@Smeagol: Is that a beluga?

@RatBoy: I actually like the buildings the way they are.
