Realmedia HD

This is my first attempt at HD rendering.  Essentially, you can now view it in HD, unfortunately, Youtube has messed up the audio syncing when you view in HD so stick with the High Quality link.

Re: R2-E

First of all, I find the title(R2-E) pretty interesting.

To those who don't know, Ben Burtt; the creator of the Wall-E's voice, is also the creator of various Star Wars sound effects. One of them being the voice of R2-D2.
So it's nice a tie-in.

I was more expecting a real-life brickfilm rather than a CGI brickfilm, but it's kinda appropriate seeing that Wall-E is a CGI film. Although I think this would work as well with real bricks.

This little short is really similiar with the beginning scene of the original film; Wall-E(or a Wall-E) exploring the abandoned human city.
The rendering is actully quite good, the animation needs some reworking but otherwise it's OK.

If you're a Wall-E fan such as me, you would find this film quite enjoyable.

Re: R2-E

I'm getting a "This video is no longer available" message. Is it just me, or are other getting it as well?

Re: R2-E

Interesting, Lech. Much of the film had a very flat visual look, which I think could have been fixed easily with some post-processing, or just a little more time spent working on the lighting. The rendering was otherwise pretty good considering it doesn't look like you used high anti-aliasing settings, though the ground texture in some places flickered quite a bit because of this. The animation was excellent as always, if a bit stiff. I know it's really hard to avoid this, though, from what little I've done. I'd be interested in seeing something like this that you spend more time rendering, which IMO would really improve it.

Indeed it would and I hope to see someone make a stop-motion adaptation of WALL-E myself. I did it in CGI because 1) I lack the space to accomplish such wide shots and 2) CGI is limitless.

Flat, eh?  Meaning the lack of a skyscraper background or something else?  There were actually some post-processing to correct how the lighting looked from the original footage (mainly to sharpen the contrast).  Unfortunately, that low angle close up of R2-E lifting the object did look off.  Don't know if it had to do with the fog layer I included to help create that polluted atmosphere.

As for the texture, I was actually expecting people to notice the sky background flickering in one shot rather than just the ground.  Of course, that goes back to the lack of anti-alias.

Realmedia version is up so maybe there's a different between that and the normal-view Youtube version.

Thanks for the reviews.

Re: R2-E

I wasn't talking about a lack of detail in the shots, but the contrast. In many shots the foreground looks very bland, a problem which could easily be fixed with more contrast adjustment in post-processing. The RM version definitely looks better, though there's still flickering. I suppose the only good solutions are to avoid textures or camera movements like this, or just render with higher anti-aliasing.

Re: R2-E

Very nice short, Lech. I'm beginning to like these short CGI stuff that you've managed to crank out recently. Good stuff.

The great things for me were the sets. Wow. Great detail in many shots. The cinematography was good as well, I liked the PoV shot looking up at the guy in the first scene.

The animation, was for lack of a better word, slow. The guy moved around so slowly, that I was beginning to feel uninterested. The ending was fun, though, so it was worth it. If you could speed up some of the animation, then it would be great.

Overall, a nice little short. mini/wink
