Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

Animation is approaching the 70% mark, even though I am in the middle of my 4th! cold in what I call the "Lost Winter".  Except for 9 pieces, I built Brent's Jetta for the next scene, but the LDD model called for 1x3x2 doors instead of the usual 1x3x1 doors.  When I went on Bricklink for some white ones, there were less than 30 available and not one was located in the USA.  Oh, well.  It won't look exactly like I wish, but the show must go on.

I intend to really pick up the animation pace, and get an early start on voices for episode 4.  Also, the EPisode 2 DVD will be available next week, and I plan to donate $1 from any sales in April to autism research.

That's really cool, guy! mini/smile

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

Animation is now 75% complete.  It's funny thinking back to the moment you shot your first photos of your first scene, and how long away this point is.  I'm current;y filming the police station scene, which is a challenge but kind of fun.  I have two characters in a confined area, which is difficult, but am exploring various new angles.  Usually, I like to mimic the camera style of live action sitcoms, but since this is animation, I to like to experiment a bit to keep things visually interesting.  I'm proud and honored to say that this scene features the voice of "Joe Brickmond"'s very own Amanda Allbee!

Animation is getting way ahead of post-production work, but that's not a problem.  I have plenty more time for post-production than for animation, and it's shaping up nicely; the church scene is completed, except for the organist's singing part, which is all my own fault.  The scene features the very talented Max Butcher, whom I recommend you seek out if looking for a very clear voice.

The theme of episode 3 is that disagreement is fine, but treating those with whom we disagree without civility isn't.  This will be the first episode exclusive to the Vimeo website.  Expect to see it in about a month!

As animation is nearing completion, I'm starting a thread for the final stretch into a post-production log.

Some computer problems are delaying the post-production process until they are resolved, but animation still continues!  85% complete!

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

Animation is 88% completed!  Lots more movement than episodes 1 and 2, I think.  Just the sheer number of frames indicate that.  Wait until episode 4!  A lot going on there, including some scenes in the script that are difficult to animate.  In episode 4 you'll finally get to see adventures in other rooms of the Schneider home, not just the living room.  Once animation is complete, it should be a simple (but not quick) matter getting the post-production work finished.  I hope everyone enjoys the episode when it's finished!

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

Animaiton is 93% completed.  Two scenes remain.  One is really short but will be tricky to animate, and the other is about a minute long.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

A few setbacks have stalled the project... including my primary light was broken by my one of my sons and I have to get a new one.  Animation is still 93% complete.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

I'm getting myself back on track.  As you may know, I lost a lot of work in a Hard drive crash & dvd backup loss.  Remaining was 36% of the animation.

In the last 10 days, I animated another 18%, so I'm past the halfway mark, at 54% animation.  I just downloaded some stills from the general store scene, which I'm going to use as a reference to reconstruct the set.  Then I'll be animating the Acme scene and the church scene.  The acme scene wasn't animated the firwt time, a scene I skipped over while I built the set.  THe church and the police station sets were never taken apart and they'll be easy to get into animating, although the church scene was contained the most complex and difficult sequences that I've ever filmed!

Forgive the delay, ut whenever I can squeeze in some work during my busy season, I will.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

Only took 1 hour to rebuild the general store from pictures that survived the crash because they were uploaded to tumblr.  The items on the shelfs are a brick-by-brick match, excluding a new item made from a new red shade I got from a Mixel set and liked better.

Shot the first cut from the scene, where Brent enters the store (seen on Tumblr)  This is my busy time of year, so it will take more time to animate than last time, maybe a week, where it took only 2 days in the winter.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

Summer is here, and fo rme, things slow to a crawl.  I'm averaging about 20 seconds of animation per week and it will be like this for the next 70 days.  My presence on BiM will also be more sporadic for the summer.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

Labor Day is 40 days away (It's like a Lent), and upon its arrival, I'll be resuming re-shooting the lost footage.  Audio is mostly completed already and so post-production will be mainly putting the frames together after animating.  See you then.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

Animation resumes in 3 1/2 weeks.  In the meantime, I've started a draft of the episode 6 screenplay.  Having challenges reconciling some scenes, but it will all work out.  Also, I'm never into spoiling anything, but I will say that Angela actually fires a gun in episode 6!

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

With Labor Day 12 hours away in my time zone, I'm getting revved up to reshoot my lost footage.  In the meantime, I will be getting back in the groove on audio.  It will be about one more week before I get to resume animation.  After animation is complete, I will delve right into animating episode 4 while episode 3 is in post-production.

Yep.  Always something.  There were a few emergencies going on but animation resumes in 2 days, God willing.

Animation is resuming!  I'm a bit rusty.  Hopefully it won't show, but some of the re-shot general store scene and church scene may seem rough.

Re: Holding Our Own Ep3 Production Log: MY FINAL THREAD POST

I'm back into the swing of animating episode 3 again, and looking forward to episode 4, which I will begin animating while 3 is in post-production.  I've been patiently waiting to release the titles and I think it's early, but the delay has cost me the entire summer.  So I thought I'd share the titles of episodes 3 through 6 with everyone here (bad pun alert!  This continues the trend started by Episode 1, "Meat the Schneiders" and Episode 2, "Diss Jockey"):

Episode 3    Mahered For Life
Episode 4    TV or Not TV
Episode 5    School Me Once, Shame On You
Episode 6    Angie Shrugged

Over half the remaining animation is in the Schneider home, which means mostly dialogue, and that kind of animation is pretty efficient for me.  There are a few other scenes that will break things up:

Acme Supermarket Scene; Something I didn't animate the first time.  I still have a bit of detail work to do on the set model.

Church Scene: I amimated this once.  This takes up about a minute and a half to two minutes of the story.  There is a 10-second sequence that is really difficult to film, and used the entire charge of my battery the first time around.  Two candles are in constant motion.  This is only ONE thing that I have to keep im mind here.

Police Station Scene: This is difficult to animate becaue of the angles required, and there are characters moving around in a small space/  I had to remove one wall at one point.  Some really tricky cuts here but nothing as hard as the church scene.

Street Scene: This is an outdoor scene, and one part is tricky because key vehicles aren't on studs, and neither is a walking character.

I'll provide updates as the animation continues.  Judging by the script and what's been filmsed so far relative to the script, the final brickfllm will be about 23 to 25 minutes long.
