Re: The Animation Challenge

I have a question: Am I allowed to submit more than one entry?

Re: The Animation Challenge

While there don't seem to be any written rules against it, I think it's always been generally understood to be one entry per person. If you filmed multiple takes, you could always compile them into a single test montage.

Also, just a reminder, only 5 days left to this challenge folks! Still far more than enough time to make an entry. It doesn't have to be anything crazy, just one or two short animation clips will suffice. Just a reminder:

Nathan Wells wrote:

Remember, your focus should be on good animation. Sound design or music is not required, and stories are discouraged. There is no time limit, but try to keep your entry focused on the actual theme.

Let's try to have a good turnout for once. And don't forget that US members are eligible to win a series 16 collectible minifig!

Ok. Thanks!

Re: The Animation Challenge

Deadline for this round is tomorrow folks! Let's at least get a couple entries in. There's still plenty of time to whip something up!

My entry is on the way. Expect it soon! mini/smile

Re: The Animation Challenge

Here is my entry, though let's hope it isn't the only one:

This is my first time animating at 12 fps, so some of the movements are rough. I was also testing out a chicken walk cycle for my own purposes in addition to animating one dig. Enjoy.

Re: The Animation Challenge

I'm liking the movement Pongowl! I had to rewatch it to realise it was Jar Jar flung out of the hedge! I like how the chicken is animated though

Re: The Animation Challenge

Great job, Pongowl. Very expressive!

I'm hours away from my studio at the moment, but tomorrow I'll try to throw something togethor. I need the distraction, Beowulf is sapping my humanity and leaving behind a burnt-out shell. I have become a shadow of my former self, a phantom contemplating a past existence. I have become a creature defined by its labors, a spirit of veangance forced to slave over its own creations.

Sorry.

Yeah I'm entering. Hopefully.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Well, this is my first attempt at animating at 20fps. I think it turned out pretty good. I would like to know what you think of it. Anyways, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_EdkwS … e=youtu.be
This one took some time because I am not used to animating at 20fps, but it was rather enjoyable to tinker with that kind of speed. By the way, see if you can spot the wolf in one of the shots.

Re: The Animation Challenge

I'm entering even though I am not at all happy with what I was trying to accomplish in this shot. But at least I'm entering.

What kind of LED did you use for the lantern?

Re: The Animation Challenge

Soo, the deadline is past, and that means it's results time! While I was hoping for more participation, 3 entries isn't too shabby all things considered. I'm happy to admit that picking a winner wasn't an easy task this time around either. Nevertheless, after a bit of soul searching and painfully deep thought, the winner is...

Pongowl! I must say, the cartoony-ness of your entry was quite charming. Also, while it wasn't exactly a direct part of the "digging a grave" aspect of this week's challenge, the Jar Jar toss at the end was a real beauty to behold... mini/love I'll be in touch with you regarding your prize.

Rafael, your entry was also very good. I very much liked your attempt at realism, and the behind the scenes photo was much appreciated.

Raptor, Your entry was good as well. The replacement animation of the excavated dirt as it hit the ground was a nice touch. A bit of a side note, as it doesn't directly tie into the challenge per se, I'd recommend you try lowering your camera angle in the future. It's generally best to have the camera be more or less at your character's eye level. That way, it helps the viewer feel immersed in the world you have created instead of like they are looking down on toys moving about a set.

So there you have it folks! Based on the level of participation and the fact that the majority of entries came in more or less "last minute," I'd definitely recommend keeping the challenge to a weekly basis as opposed to biweekly. So, without further ado, take it away Pongowl!

Re: The Animation Challenge

Thanks Brickcrazy, I enjoyed entering and appreciate your efforts to revive the Animation Challenge.

As for the rest of you, here is the new challenge: shapeshifting! The idea is essentially to animate a character undergoing a metamorphic process, whether it be Bruce Banner morphing into the Hulk or a Jar-Jar mutating into a mega beast-like creature of mayhem. Whatever you decide, try to have your character transition smoothly between two different forms.

Due to the low turnout observed during Brickcrazy's week, I don't see any use in continuing to offer a prize beyond the joy of victory that has been awarded in weeks past. Nonetheless, the Animation Challenge will go on as it has before, so draw out that camera and whip up some entries.

The deadline will be Monday, October 24. Good luck, everyone! mini/sunnies

Re: The Animation Challenge

Really cool challenge Pongowl! I will momentarily begin working on it. Also, thank you Brickcrazy for providing a prize. I would really enjoy something like that in the future, but not every week. It really encouraged me to enter the challenge.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Dang it! I forgot about the last challenge and realized it was too late to enter but oh well, guess I'm gonna have some animation to do tomorrow for the next challenge. I've got some good ideas popping in my head right now. mini/bigsmile

This one was really fun to make. mini/wink
Edit: Make sure your youtube settings are set to HD. for some reason, mine were default as a poor quality.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Hey Raptor Studios, that link is set to private. It needs to be either unlisted or public so that others can view your entry.

And to everyone else, there is still time to make an entry if you have yet to do so. The day is young, you can still be productive an animate on this fine Sunday afternoon. Have a good day.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Here's my entry. It's kind of incomplete, (I was going to include a shot in which the character turned into some white bricks) but It's something. Hope you like it, and sorry 'bout that weird motion blur.
