http://www.bricksinmotion.com/images/bimawards2008.png

Hello everyone!

I am proud to announce the 2008 Bricks in Motion Awards! This event is an annual award presentation that recognizes brickfilms that do extraordinarily in many aspects of film and entertainment, these awards being for films made in 2008. The Bricks in Motion Awards are like the Oscars for brickfilms.

The past year has been enormously busy and chaotic; so many events like these have been prolonged. The beta testers and staff have rebuilt this award ceremony, tying it with the site, hence the name, Bricks in Motion Awards.

I will be organizing this year’s Awards, and with the help of the judges, have finished the nominee list for the 2008 Bricks in Motion Awards. Ballots were sent out to members who’d been invited to judge. They were to choose 3 films for each category that they felt deserved to be nominated for that specific category. The ballots were tallied up, and the top 4 films for each category became the nominee list, which is what is shown at the bottom.

CATEGORIES AND NOMINATIONS

The categories will be described along with their nominations. Judges have already been sent ballots for the winners; the ballots will be tallied up in one week, ten announced in the chat, (details farther down). The films are listed in alphabetical order, and are not ordered with any bias or favouring. The judges were not allowed to nominate their own film, as the awards were meant to be as fair as possible.

All films made in 2008 were eligible, though now that the directory is up and running, this may change for future awards.

I'm pretty surprised that Moronic is nominated for Best Animation, I didn't think that was it's highpoint, at all. I guess I can't complain, though! mini/tongue

When he said "The winners will be announced along with some videos and clips of the nominees" I don't think he meant in that order HeAndHim.

Re: The 2008 Bricks In Motion Awards Nominations [CLOSED]

Well, I better get to work on something, really hoping i was gonna have a chance at least on the writing front...

Unrenewable is one of my favorites of the past year, be rooting for it on my front ;D

Teh Tripod has teh extra boost.

I am devoted to proving that the brickfilm art can be just as serious, emotional, and entertaining as anything in the professional film industry.

Re: The 2008 Bricks In Motion Awards Nominations [CLOSED]

Tripod I remember your name being mentioned at some point in the process of coming up with a shortlist, I think the final decision had something to do with when your films were released and whether or not they were part of a series but I can't remember the details.  Nevertheless I do agree that there were probably a few neglected films in this process, after so many delays we ended up pulling it together relatively quickly but hopefully the process should be more streamlined next year.  I think the nomination list is good on the whole, though it does vary substantially from my own ballot in some categories.  (Voters were selected from the beta testers and staff; voters could not nominate their own films)

For the record, I wasn't in charge of anything for this, I just gave suggestions for the shortlist and some of the categories.  NXT has done most of the organizational work here.

A second question, why not have it at the end of the year?

These are actually the 2008 Awards, they will be at the end of the year from now on, but these ran late. These should have been half a year ago, but it was very chaotic, so this event did not happen in the winter.

You mean the first brickfilm that ever made me lol might win! Oh Yeah!

Re: The 2008 Bricks In Motion Awards Nominations [CLOSED]

I was tempted to let the nominations slide but.......I just couldn't.
There was a danger nothing much would happen this year as 2008 seems like such a distant memory.
As subjective as this stuff gets I think you should have taken a bit more care with the nominations.
Many I agree with but there was some obvious fails. For example:
  Best set design - Playback
  Best screenplay - Horse
The final straw was Natham's nomination in best set design.
I love that film but wasn't he commissioned by Lego to make it?
Maybe you should include the Lego Town brickfilms then as they were friggin awesome.
I wonder how many awards Phillip will take?

Re: The 2008 Bricks In Motion Awards Nominations [CLOSED]

Awesome! mini/bigsmile

Congrats to the nominees! I'm especially happy to see Gaston's Odyssey up for Best Film.
