Put emotion into it. Feel like you're the character in question. I know this because people have told me this, I actually suck at voice acting (which is why the main character in most of my films is my sigfig )
Sometimes if I want to be like a mean mad character...I MAKE MYSELF MAD!!!! heehee That goes for anything too.
Mmm... I'm not really sure I have a good way to explain how to voice act nicely. I do loads of voices for my films, I'm pretty good, I think, but I'm not sure how to explain. Most of the time, I just do silly voices. xD It gives the movie a great cartoony feel. But I'm not sure how exactly you could do better... maybe just try to put some emotion into it. I don't know.
But if all else fails, you could just get someone else to do a voice.
Do so many takes the director drowns in them.
And then do some more, just to be safe.
Try to think like the character. What is the character feeling? How old is the character? What emotions would it be having? Try thinking about how you would say the line, if you were in that situation. One thing that also helps is if you do the hand motions that you would do in real life.
Exactly what redbrick1 said. BE THE CHARACTER. that's the most important thing in voice acting. also, you gotta have a recording device that you're happy with, and it musn't distort the voice into somethin that sounds weird. Not expensive, i got my headset for $10 at a discount variety store. Works perfectly and really good sound quality.
if you want, sound editing software is great too. you can make certain voices louder for different scenes and scenarios.
Well my mic should do the job, I use a Blue snowball mic. I have been practicing a lot of voice acting and special effects. I am about to start a new short film and I think I am just about ready to start pre-production after all these test I have been doing xD
I use mixcraft(garage band) to mix around with my voice to fit the character I need to portray.

Do what i do sing your favorite music...really it works!
My trick can look weird...
Look at yourself in a mirror
Then try to BE the character you play.
Act what you say(put moves with what you say , like if you are an actor). Exaggerate your accent, if any.
Finally, articulate too much. Yup, this is the key.
This is how (at the beginning) I practiced myself to be a voice actor. It really worked for me.
Read the line few times until you memorize it. Than it won't sound like you are just reading it.
