Topic: Horse walk help

For my TOY film I need to have a horse walking and galloping, but I don't know how to animate a horse. Can someone help?

Re: Horse walk help

We've done a cat and horse walk. The key is to balance the legs between studs for 2-3 frames (depending on how fast/slow you want it.) Also, when putting one leg down, make sure that the other is still up to make it look realistic. Also, make sure to ease in and ease out. (Not like we're experts on that mini/tongue ) Start and end the movements slowly, and speed up as you get along. Hope we helped!

I've seen that, but it's CGI, right?

Re: Horse walk help

Wow Golden, that was such a helpful comment.

Mighty, As I understand it he took the photo of the horse then split the parts of it up in Photoshop, then animated  each part in software such as After Effects. So it's not quite CGI, but it is accomplished in post production. (If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me).

As was said when it was posted, this technique really only works with a side on shot. But if that's all that's required, it looks beautiful.

Re: Horse walk help

If you have to animate horses, you can use 12-15 fps. You dont photography the legs. A little test with FX:

Re: Horse walk help

I just move the legs from 1 stud to the next.it's the easiest.
