Topic: Reputation Meter?

When a new post is added to a topic. A reputation meter appears under everyones avatars. It's kind of weird. Then they disappear. Does anyone else know what I am talking about? mini/confused

Re: Reputation Meter?

Ok it's set up now.  Thought we would give it a trial run after several staff members suggested trying a feature like this.  It allows people to get a better indication of their standing on the site. I'm a little concerned that it could turn into some kind of goofy popularity contest, but we'll give it a try.

Question:
What are those little thumbs under every post?

Yes, they're thumbs but I think they are our reputation meters, too.

Re: Reputation Meter?

Wow, the reputations are really jumping. Almost each time I go to a new page, they change.

Re: Reputation Meter?

He he he
These are weird. xD
I just started going through trying to get more thumbs up for cool people like Smeagol, Stan, Film Fire, topit, and some other people. I need to give NXT some.
The cool down bothers me. mini/sad

Re: Reputation Meter?

I guess, I'll give it a go. but I don't know about rating people. This could turn ugly.
EDIT: Okay, so how do we see our own reputuations?

Re: Reputation Meter?

I think they come up after you're given a thumbs up or thumbs down. Otherwise you don't have a reputation meter.

Re: Reputation Meter?

You know, this might actually really help BiM.
People may try to make better, and more kind posts to avoid down ranking.
Maybe, could be cool. I've really been wanting a way to like posts for a while. mini/smile
It's a little sad that it is kinda negative though.

topit~! Thank you! mini/cat

This post is going to get some negative numbers...
So, it's basically a rating of how helpful a post is? Not a bad idea!

EDIT: Judging from the '3 minute limit' between ratings, I am inferring that these are for if a post only really especially helped you or annoyed you. It's not something you do for every post then... I get it now! Good call!

Re: Reputation Meter?

Yeah, so try to be helpful and stuff.

I'm hoping this doesn't turn into YouTube, "Thumbs up if you saw the funny face at 1:08!! LOL!".

Yeah. xD
Stuff like that is probably going to get thumbs down a lot here anyway.

BTW, guys, what's with the "Status: OK" with LEGOandStickFigs? Did he just make his location be: "Somewhere EPIC! Status: OK" or what?

Re: Reputation Meter?

Idea!
How about this directly connects to the Community forum. Like, if your reputation goes above a certain number, you're allowed in. This is assuming that people won't just +1 people just because they're popular or 'cool.' Does that sound nifty? Because, the way it is right now, with people hand-picking other people, it's likely they'll miss a lot of people who still deserve to get in.
And I'm not just writing this to get me into the community!

Re: Reputation Meter?

I suppose it's possible, but we aren't entirely sure of how well this system is going to work. Either way, as long as you contribute positively to the forums, you'll get into the community forum.

That's actually a pretty good idea. mini/smile

But the staff should wait some time before deciding the number. Just to see how fast it goes up and for who. I'm sure a few people might get 100 in a week or so.

Re: Reputation Meter?

Oh, great. Now we get a ton of this "Thumbs up if" crap here, as if having it all over YouTube wasn't enough.

Thumbs up if you agree.

That was sarcasm.]

EDIT: Waow. It's amazing how fast that plummeted to -5.

Hey we shouldn't just give people thumbs up just because there cool we need too thumbs up people if they post helpful posts or threads.

People are cool because they make good posts. mini/smile

Re: Reputation Meter?

I'd rather not use it as a specific cutoff for getting into the community forum, though we talked about that in the staff forum. (The perception of a person by anyone who signed up for this site is not the best indication of whether or not they engage in film discussions and would use the community forum responsibly.) but I'm definitely hoping that it can in time become a meaningful indicator of whether or not a person is contributing and playing nice.
