Topic: I Am The Night - Casting call and other Audio Related Stuff

For those of you who aren't aware, I'm making a huge Batman film called I Am The Night. < Just click the link and you can read up on it.

For the most part, I'll be playing a whole lot of parts, maybe around half, and I'll have a fellow from my theatre group portraying Batman, but I've still got a few other parts to fill, whose voices I can't quite get without stretching it a bit too far, as I don't want people to sound alike. And so here are the parts which still need filling:

NOTE: Not all of the test line are actually from the movie, some I just thought up randomly, and some are from the TV show, and you can also send what ever test line you want, as long as it seems like something the character would say, so feel free to do what ever line you wish, I'd actually much prefer it. C:

The Riddler TAKEN BY DARTH VINCENT PRICE

News Reporter TAKEN

Commissioner Gordon

Relatively large amount of lines.
Test Line: "Alright men, I want you three to cover the back exit, you two come in from the side while Johnnybob and I try to draw some of their fire." (and/or:) "Batman, we've got a situation."
Must have a very good grown-up sounding voice. Kinda tough and commanding.

Alfred TAKEN BY EVAN

The Green Hornet & Kato
http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/190790_210613042286217_100000125687436_964155_3922982_n.jpg
Very few lines probably. They just have a small cameo on a TV.
Hornet Test Line: "Alright, Kato, let's get back to the Black Beauty."
Kato Test Line: "Okay, boss."
I would like them to sound like how they did in the '60s Hornet show. You can probably find some examples on YouTube. Kato must have a good Bruce Lee impersonation, and in absolutely no circumstances is the Hornet to sound like the guy from the new movie.

And that's it for the roles for now.
I don't need these very soon. So if you get picked, it may be a little while until I have the line for you to do. These all need to be very good. I don't want childish voices for these guys, this is a relatively serious movie. And you must have reasonably good recording resources. I don't want fuzz of mic pops or all that. Also, absolutely none of this move has and bad language.

If you'd like to audition, tell me so here, and I'll PM you my E-Mail. mini/smile

Kind of important note: Unlike most people, I don't record all of the lines then animate, I do it the other way around. Though this movie will have some lines where you can record then I animate, it won't be that way with all of them. I like to think it up as I go along. No script. After I've animated, I'll put up a private video on YouTube with subtitles for you to watch and sync it to the animation. I do, however, time lines shortly before animating as so I'll know how long the animation must be. It's also kinda nice to be able to watch your character when you do lines for him.

Music
Since this is the audio thread, I might as well mention that this film will have its own music. Not McLeod, or pirated stuff from the movies. But an actual score my sister will write. We actually used the main tune she made up for Batman in MAILBOX OF DOOM! (quite ironically after Batman got eaten alive).

Sound Effects
It's also going to have only original sound effects by me. I shall be revising nearly all of my sound library with a Blue Snowball. I would also like some ideas on how to record some sounds:

Silenced pistols
Explosions
The Bat-mobile
Choppers
Electrical zappy sounds

(As you might have guessed, I don't have silenced pistols, explosives, or all that good stuff. I'd like to know how to make that with regular stuff)

Nah, you should get all the lines first before you animate, dawg.

"I wasn't 'rooting' for anyone, but, I kinda wanted 'Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close' to get Best Picture and Best Director. Even though I only saw the trailer for that movie, I really enjoyed it. I used to know some people who were very affected by 9/11."-Omarnol

I have to agree. You're making things hard on yourself and your actors for no real benefit. It's no fun recording lines to a preexisting animation, and the results are generally kind of terrible. Choose good actors and let them act. I understand the desire to get things done, but it would be worth your wait to let the actors record before you film.

Away on business. If necessary, I can be reached via email.

Re: I Am The Night - Casting call and other Audio Related Stuff

Problem is, I like to improvise. I can't improvise as much if all of the lines are already recorded. mini/tongue

I know that this method is unusual, but I've found it's results are quite nice.

Re: I Am The Night - Casting call and other Audio Related Stuff

could i try for the Riddler

Alright. mini/smile

Re: I Am The Night - Casting call and other Audio Related Stuff

I'm wondering why you got someone else to voice Batman. I thought your imitaion of Batman in Mailbox of Doom was pretty good.

I don't suppose any of the characters have dumb voices, do they? I can do any kind of dumb voice. The only other voices I can do are a high-piched nasally alien-like voice and a decent Boris Karkoff imitation.

Oh, I support the animate-then-voice method, as you know. It works for me. (I just wanted to say that there's someone else who suppourts this method, I don't want you to feel that everyone is aginst you.)

I thought you already had an explosion sound effect.

And now, it's even better. mini/smile
However, you have not met Doug. His voice is very deep and powerful, kinda like the Phantom of the Opera. I think it will work awesomely for Batman.

Well, I'm glad I'm not alone. xD

I know it's weird to some of you guys, but it really works for me. I like to see my film unfold as I make it. Not to stiffly follow some script. I've been doing this for years, I know what I'm doing. I've found it's end results to be quite excellent. Particularly in How to Not Rob a Bank. And if you don't like recording to animation, you don't have to be part of this.

I thought you already had an explosion sound effect.

I'm not quite satisfied with it actually. mini/tongue

Re: I Am The Night - Casting call and other Audio Related Stuff

I could try out for one of the characters. I need to decide which one.

I'll send my E-Mail.

You can try about for as many characters as you'd like. And I'd be okay with someone voicing multiple characters, as long as they both don't sound too similar.

Re: I Am The Night - Casting call and other Audio Related Stuff

Hmm... I have an idea for the explosion sound effect. How about slowing down a balloon popping and adding some brick noise? It's similar to what you did for your gunshot sound effect, and that's like a small explosion.
