Topic: Know a Good Free Music Composing Program?

Well, the name pretty much says it all. I need/want badly a good free music composing program. I've tried Anvil Studio, but the instruments don't sound right.

And then when I get home the peanuts are the first thing gone so I go back and get more and the cycle goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on." -- Adam Young

I've heard of Aviary Music Creator but have never used it.

Back after taking a very long break. I'm going to be making more films and hopefully going to be gradually getting better. Comeback time.

This may sound funny, but f you've got a mac and a midi keyboard, Garageband is actually purdy good for that. No joke. At least its "free." I'm sure there are better but just saying.

Mixcraft is the best music program I've tried. You can download the trial version, and read the tutorial Mason wrote to learn how to record music once the trial expires.

Another program I like is Finale Notepad. I think it was available for free a few years ago, though I'm not sure if you can get one of the old versions anymore.

Musescore is a good composing software but you can't save the music on to your computer
believe me. I've tried mini/blankexpression

Re: Know a Good Free Music Composing Program?

I've heard ACID Xpress was good

Re: Know a Good Free Music Composing Program?

The Aviary Music Generator is good. mini/smile You have to be good at creating music in real life to use it, though.

It is mainly for electronical music, but there are some orchestral type instruments. Though I have gathered before a bunch of orchestral .sf2 files, which are orchestral instruments that you can add to lmms. If I can find it, I'll try to post it in this thread, for others that want a great free program, with better sounds than it already has.

FL Studio 10 if you're using a PC. You can download a free trial with a great deal of features. With it, you can add notes and create compositions in it.

Garageband if you're on a Mac. It comes pre-loaded with almost all Macs. It works similar to FL Studio and also allows you to use "Musical Typing" in which you can hit a key and it can add a note.

With both of these, you can import many sound fonts for much customization.

Seriously, I just want one that can help me compose music. I don't want any of that techno beat generator stuff or drum beats, I just want something with musical instruments.

EDIT: And I don't want any free trials.
