Re: LEGO Ghostbusters Movie

It was a nice short, and a good homage to Ghostbusters. (And other things)
And the sets and effects were top-notch, and match what little I've seen of Ghostbusters.
It had some nice spots, but the production focus was more on the effects and ghosts than animation.

Using the official voices limited the dialog, but additionally created wide swaths of no talking that contrasted sharply with the few places with words. (To not even mention the audio quality compared to the rest of the sounds.) It may have been better to cut any dialog after the girl announced the job. The story was carried quite well by the visuals, and didn't even need the talking, though I see why you wanted to include it.

As has been said on Youtube, the walking really stood out in a bad way, artistic choice or not. It's something that new people use, and carries with it the stigma of using shortcuts and cutting way too many corners. It may have been meant well, but it'll take a lot to overcome folk's initial perception of it. Especially since everybody walked fine in the firehouse.

Still, the ghost effects were very well done, and the shot at 1:29 is awesome.
The transparency and movement look great, and the other assorted effects throughout the film are good.

It's good, overall. The music and story remind me of official Lego shorts, in the fun and style.
And the quality keeps that thought in mind. But it shows how one small aspect can change how the whole film gets seen.

Thanks Pritchard Studio for that review, I really appreciated it. :-)
As everybody else, I'm always trying to improve and try new things. This project was no exception.

Thanks again

Re: LEGO Ghostbusters Movie

Though definitely not one of my favorite brickfilms of all time, this is, without a doubt, a classic in it's own right.

The sets, effects, and animation really fit well together, and, along with the piano-heavy music, pay an excellent homage to a great 80's classic. It's a pretty great mashup/remake of the famous scene, and, really did have me invested long enough to watch the entire thing.

However, not animating the characters walking really did get on my nerves. If you had just placed the camera up higher, or had soft-matted the entire thing to a wider aspect ratio, covering up the legs, it would have been essentially flawless. Again, this isn't a problem with animation more so with technique...

Overall, I rate it a 4 star brickfilm. - It is great. It's just that, a few of the effects, specifically toward the end, tend to scream "edited, not real" to me, and, again, certain animation techniques really bring it down from the 5 stars it could have very well deserved. But, don't let this bring you down - it's still a great film, overall able to carry a 4 stars in my mind.
