Sometimes a 'folksy' approach works -- you know, you can see the edges of the animation table, the 'sea' is several non-matching pieces of blue paper, the 'sky' is a series of printed clouds tacked together, and so on. Somehow, it doesn't work here; there's too much 'self-knowledge' that this is an animation commenting on itself. For this process to work, the production values have to be a lot higher, otherwise it just looks like laziness.
