It’s out (and just in time for the summer contest, no less)! A frame-for-frame remake of TobyMac’s Lose My Soul music video in LEGO! 1 year in the making and over 10,000 frames captured (this includes all the failed shots as well; I’m not entirely sure how many frames are in the final product). mini/tongue

I’m really glad (and relieved) that this is finally out, it’s definitely something I am proud of. mini/smile

Amazing! I totally loved it. mini/smile I can imagine it took a lot of work getting the minifigure's arms to move in all those different ways. This depicts the music video so well. Excellent! mini/bigsmile
Edit: May I ask what you used for the microphone? Is that a lego?

Re: TobyMac - Lose My Soul music video in LEGO

Great job Mighty!
You've come a long way in these past few years, and this is yet another evidence of that.
The lighting is fantastic, and compliments the stellar set design. You nailed the look of an overcrowded pawnshop. I have no doubt that the roughest part of this video was all the slower, smaller motions that are really hard to emulate in Lego. And yet, you nailed them all. Even the out-of-socket motions and posing look nice.

Do you have some behind the scenes stuff? I'd love to see how you managed some of those shots with unconventional posing and movements.

You put a lot of time and effort into this film, and it shows. And I can't think of anything you could have improved on.
I'm not a huge fan of TobyMac's music, but I can certainly respect the message. After all, the Bible does call us to forsake all for the cause of Christ, yet so many of us hang on to stuff to the detriment of our Christian walk. Thank you for pouring your time into a worthwhile message.

Duuuuuudddeeeeee.

Dude.

This is awesome. All of the movements were perfect, almost too good for LEGO. The hard work and dedication put into this really shows. Keep it up man!

Re: TobyMac - Lose My Soul music video in LEGO

I've been waiting for this for ages and ages. Was it worth the wait? Of course it was!

I was expecting this to be amazing, but actually, this is beyond amazing! Not only is this the greatest brickfilm of 2016 so far, but it is one of the greatest brickfilms ever created. This is a masterpiece. How did you make something so good? How, I ask you? I didn't think it was possible to be that good at animating!

May the Lord Bless you,
Amen.

That was great. How in the world did you achieve those shaky cam shots? They were incredibly well done. mini/eek

Re: TobyMac - Lose My Soul music video in LEGO

Great job! You matched the lighting really well (which is beautiful), and as everyone seems to be noticing, the slow animation is really impressive. mini/smile

Re: TobyMac - Lose My Soul music video in LEGO

I didn't read the comments of others; I viewed and went straight for my first impression.  But I doubt there is little I can add that hasn't been said or will be said in the coming few days.

Technically and thematically, it raised the bar in demonstrating what a fine work of art the medium of the Brickfiilm can be.  This is definitely the best brickfilm of the year, and I doubt no other film this year will steal that title, unless "The Squire and The Scroll" is released and meets all expectations.

You should be proud.

By the way, I tried to rate this 5 bricks, but BiM returns a 404 error.  Can some admin be sue my vote is counted?

Re: TobyMac - Lose My Soul music video in LEGO

That was a great brick film, the way you maneuvered the movement and animation in what seems to be a very tight set is a victory on its own.

Honestly great work, you've come a long way since you started brickfilming.

Keep up the great work mate.

You'll be able to see the microphone setup in the behind the scenes video, which is coming soon. mini/wink

See above^

Also, the side-by-side comparison video is out! mini/bigsmile

Re: TobyMac - Lose My Soul music video in LEGO

You've got a spelling error in the title of the side-by-side comparison.

And Fixed! mini/smile

Whaaaaa there's no error...  mini/shifty

Re: TobyMac - Lose My Soul music video in LEGO

I just watched the side by side comparison, and this video is so accurate! Amazing. Once again a job well done. mini/smile

Re: TobyMac - Lose My Soul music video in LEGO

It's clear you've put a lot of effort into this, and it shows.  I love the animation, particularly the movement of the arms.  On the whole, not only this rendition is extremely accurate and faithful to the original, it's also highly enjoyable to watch.  Fantastic work.

Re: TobyMac - Lose My Soul music video in LEGO

Thank you all! I was aiming to get as close to the original as I could with this, so I'm really glad I achieved this. mini/smile

On another note, the behind-the-scenes video is finished!

Re: TobyMac - Lose My Soul music video in LEGO

Undoubtedly the best Brickfilm music video I have seen yet. You obviously put a ton of effort into making this and it really shows mini/sunnies

Re: TobyMac - Lose My Soul music video in LEGO

The camera movement in this really is outstanding. Thanks for putting up the behind the scenes, it's really interesting to see how you did it all.

Re: TobyMac - Lose My Soul music video in LEGO

I'm sure no one would mind this thread being bumped, since this is such an iconic video in the Lego brickfilm library, and we'd love to rewatch.

My children watch Liberty Treehouse on weekends on the blaze, and the original Toby Mac video was on today.  Liberty Treehose is significant to brickfilming because they aired John D. Thunder's "Perpetual Twilight" brickfilm, which was a contest entry here that was also entered in the internet's MMO filmmaking social experience, "Sneak on the Lot".  As the winner, it appeared on Liberty Treehouse.  It's awesome to hear Brick7s voice thru the TV speaker, which doesn't normally happen unless I'm watching a Holding Our Own DVD.
