Topic: Sound Requests: Fulfill Some, Suggest Some
Hopefully, this will take the place of all other "Looking for a sound effect" threads.
The purpose of this thread is to: (1)Expand the sound library, and (2)Help people find the
sounds that they are looking for/need while making a film. Before describing how it works, I will
begin by addressing some questions you may have about the sound library.
Q: Wait, there's a sound library? Where is it?
A: The BIM Sound Library is, at present, a collection of MP3 files created by several members of the
community and categorized in multiple ZIP archives. There is no special page of the site for
downloading these files yet, but you can see them and download them from this thread. Most importantly,
BIM owns the rights to all of the content in the library. Any member of this site can use these
sounds in their own films, without copyright issues.
Q: So, can I submit something to the library?
A: Only if you made it. If you have a sound file to contribute, it must be:
(1) An MP3 file, (2)At a minimum quality level of 44.1 kHz sampling rate, with 16-bit bit depth, and
perhaps most importantly,(3)YOUR ORIGINAL CONTENT!!! See this thread for a complete list of standards that submissions must follow.
Now here is how this Sound Requests thread works.
If there is a certain sound you want in the library, request it, via a post in this thread, and
I will edit this post with a complete listing of the requested sounds. I will
try to record as many of these as I can, but anyone can fulfill a sound request.
You can actually save work for me! 
For example, say someone requests
the sound of waves lapping. I may not live near a beach, but you might live
next door to one, so you can go out with your tape recorder and get that sound a lot
easier.
If you choose to fulfill a sound request, you should save your file to an external
hosting service and then link to it in a post in this thread. You don't have to submit
it to the library just because you are linking to it, but if you choose to please see
this thread. If I listen to it and like it, however, I may write you
and ask permission to add it to the library.
When requesting a sound, keep in mind that clarity helps! You have a much better chance
of getting the sound you want when you describe it specifically. Compare it to another sound,
describe how it makes you feel, however you can get the point across. It'll help me
and anyone else who wishes to fulfill a sound request.
Sound requests that have been fulfilled will have the word "fulfilled" written next to them.
So, get requesting!
