Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

This film looks like it'll be pretty epic. Love the sets! What frame rate are you going to use?

This looks really good. I await it with glee. Good luck with it.

I started out at 15 FPS, but along the way, I went to 24. It is just sooo much nicer to use 24. But almost twice the work...

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

I'm definitely lookng forward to this. Not only I love the old classic space sets and minifigures, but I'm also a fan of Red vs Blue. I understand that this is not like that series, but I like the idea anyway. Good luck with this

Mmm... I'm not sure that's a good idea. It would sort of ruin the continuity of your film somewhat, even if it looks cool to have 24 FPS.
I'm sure by now, that this is irreversible. Unless you want to reanimate one part of the film. But I'd advise you to never make a serious change in your filming process that would create a visual imbalance in your final product. It's much better to save it for your next film starting it with the new thing. Such as changing frame-rate, changing cameras, different backdrop, and the rest.

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

We'll see...
In The Great Fraudini I also used a mix of 12 and 24 fps. Didn't seem disturbing in that film.

Just to share something again:

Small part of the Blue League base control room.
(Shots already filmed from different point of view, everything left of the black fences is out of view...)

Wow, that's great. mini/smile All of the details are fantastic! mini/bigsmile
Though, there's some wood or something visible in the bottom right corner.
And that one guy's orange hair doesn't seem to fit, as this is classic space, but that's a newer piece in a more modern color. But lighting is amazing.

(BTW, Mods, this should probably be moved to Wips and Tests is it's not too much trouble.)

Yes. Update threads like for "I Am Night" belong in Pre-Production.

Most professional stop motion is made at 24 fps on twos which is basically 12fps with the ability to move to 24fps for action sequences.

TL;DR: 12 and 24 fps are compatible.

He has started making it. So that would make it a Work in Progress (WIP).

"I Am The Night" is being used for pre-production though, unlike Boardron who is now actually filming and making his movie, which is a work in progress.

I actually think it would go in the Production forum, because WIPS and Tests is mainly used for clips from the movie and test footage. Not that it matters in the least bit.

Well, looking at his other shots, the minifigs have modern faces instead of the classic smiley faces. I think he's going for a more modern look with the minifig heads and hair.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Indeed! It would be very difficult to distinguish between characters if they all have a classic space-suit on and the same facial expression. (In "The Find" I tried this by giving each of the characters a different classic space colour, bu that isn't an option here, because... well... it is "red" versus "blue".) And the smiley faces would make them all WAAAY too happy. (Believe me, some of them really aren't.) But I'm still trying to go for the classic space atmosphere...

As for location of the thread, if a mod tries to move this somewhere, go ahead! As long as I can find it myself.
And, yes, I am in the progress of shooting the film. About 25% of the script shot, although that is kind of hard to tell because the script itself is still kind of "fluid".

I'm a bit concerned about the length of the film. It looks like it'll be in the order of 8 minutes, which is a bit long for an internet brickfilm. So I'm considering releasing this in parts... the upside of that would be that I would be able to release the first part a whole lot sooner than the whole film...

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

I think you should release it all on one big bulk. Take your time with it. I much more enjoy watching a film all at once.

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

Great set designs! I like the way you used 3 different colours for the rocks mini/smile

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

I agree with ANP, it's better if you release it all together. It would kind of make sense to release smaller parts if it was longer than 15 minutes, or a series. But since it's just 8 minutes, it's fine.

Re: Progress on next film: Operation Blue Dragon

I am eagerly anticipating this film! Every update makes me more and more excited! The sets in particular are very nice indeed. Also, may I ask what is the state with voice acting? mini/cat
