Topic: Community Forum Changes

After much discussion with the staff, we've decided to close the community forum to the public.  While the changes a year ago were helpful in cutting down on spam, posting in this one forum has nearly doubled from what it was a year ago, and it has literally outgrown the entire rest of the website.  This website is supposed to be about filmmaking, and we as a staff feel that the focus has instead become a miscellaneous discussion forum that is mostly not related to filmmaking or LEGO.

We feel that by closing the "Community" forum to the public, we can prevent new people who are not interested in discussing brickfilming and filmmaking from joining the site. People who are here for the reason of discussing and sharing brickfilms and filmmaking should not stand to lose much, and we will allow access to the community forum to members who the staff agrees have consistently shown interest in the real purpose of the community. If you haven't made the cut just yet, please don't take it as our personal judgment on you, we will invite more people with time.  It is, however, going to be invite-only, so please don't ask for an invitation.

I know there are people here who rarely show interest in filmmaking or brickfilming and enjoy the community forum.  The fact is that I never wanted to run a website that was not focused on filmmaking.  I don't enjoy running this site anymore because it has so completely lost its focus, and the staff is unanimous in this.

I'd just use youtube otherwise, unless I needed help with something..

Huh. I didn't even notice. Which is odd, cuz like 50% of what I troll post is in the community section.
Too bad. I rather liked that section and suggest it should be resurrected.

You people misunderstand.  The unregistered people, the public, won't see the Community Forum anymore.  Registered members can still see it and post on it.

The idea is to discourage people from registering for the sole purpose of posting in the Community Forum.

Erm.  Not exactly, no.  You can see it because you're staff.

Folks posting meme pics in here are sort of reinforcing the logic behind closing the forum like this, though.

I don't see the big deal in the community forum. People go there to have a laugh, sometimes posting stupid pictures, what is the problem with that? as long as it doesn't come into the actual filmmaking forums. I do disapprove on this new attempt in trying to control this community.

But thinking about this, I see that this may be a good idea; allowing certain people to use the community forum who are worthy of it. But it must be a hell of a job on keeping on top on who deserves it.

Well, half of me agrees with this (I can finally get back to actually brickfilming), but the other half will miss such threads like Cafe Corner, the minecraft thread, and the videogame discussion topic. But I respect Smeagol enough on to know how to handle this site.

Yeah, I see your point with this. Most of the threads in the Community forum were unneeded. The only thread I'm going to miss is Cafe Corner. It was a good place to just talk about whatever you wanted, a free thread. You figured out a perfect solution, too. Only let people who aren't trolls in. You can't completly get rid of it, just block out the trolls. That way, members who you know won't do anything too out-of whack, like make threads that have no use. Yeah, this was a good move. Now, we can focus on this site's intended purpose. This will cut down on avatar trends, if not eliminate them. Now, I'll never have to read stuff about ponies again. I was actually a little worried that the ponies were turning us into 4chan. Keep the ponies on 4chan, don't bring them here. Now we're what we're supposed to be, a brickfilming website.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.
