Topic: Teh Rig Thread

Hey guys,

This here thread is dedicated to you showing off pics of your standard rigs and some crazy ones you use to film certain shots. Also, you can post anything crazy that you do to your camera in order to film with it. So I'll start you guys off. Here it is:

Here's a rig that I had to make so that the tractor would stay balanced and not let the camera shake.

Re: Teh Rig Thread

Once for an uncompleted film I wanted to do an overhead shot, so what I did was I built this huge rig to hold my camera and it came out nicely. Unortunately I wasn't really happy with the rest of the film, so I dumped it. The rig is about half intact, but I can piece it back together and show you. I might use it  action scenes.

Back In Black!

Re: Teh Rig Thread

I made a rig for my new camera. I'll post some pics later.

I'm working on getting my studio back up and running, so stay posted...

Re: Teh Rig Thread

For an aerial shot I made a wall of 2X bricks and it ended up like 11 long and attached (I think) Seans qc9k rig to the the top and tilted the 9000s lens down and tada! you have an arial shot.

Re: Teh Rig Thread

I was doing an over headshot and I was downstairs. I couldn't be bothered to go all the way upstairs to get my lego, so I stuck my camera to the first thing I saw.
A BISCUIT TIN.

I need a new name! HELP

Re: Teh Rig Thread

Lets just say there wasn't many biscuits left by the time I had finished animating! mini/wink

Re: Teh Rig Thread

Good going guys. Let's put some pics on, I'm really interested in some of these rigs. mini/bigsmile

Basic tilting rig, my camera is in the LEGO case with holes in it to allow for this rig; most used, because I often have to tilt the camera up or down to get the minifigs in the right location.

The tilting rig in action with a tower in place for an aerial shot; this is where the design of my tracking rig wounded me, because I had to put it vertical due to the 8X8 brick it rests on (tilting at that angle shows most of the rig bottom when it is horizontal).

Simple Dolly rig made a long while ago; as you can see, the tilting rig is also in use here, so the minifigs are actually in the picture! The white flat plates help in moving the camera, so it's not just studs.

Finally, the pan rig; it used to be much much more complicated and inefficient, but I recently improved the design immensely. Note that the bar on top simply improves the stability of the camera, and that if need be, I can put the tilting rig on the base of this rig to allow for more positions to pan, and to create a tilting and panning camera movement (though it would be unstable, it would still theoretically work out).

If anyone wants more pics on the design of these rigs, let me know! mini/smile

Re: Teh Rig Thread

Uhhh well it's obviously a... erm.... Logitech Quickcam Pro, I wanna say? Quality is about as high as a webcam will get it (which isn't very high...), but it's not too bad for filming. Of course nobody else seems to have it, so I had to make my own case for it (which might have included some sticky tack for extra support mini/shifty ), but it's not too bad of a webcam.

How did you fit a Quickcam in there?!

Re: Teh Rig Thread

Heh, I have that camera actually. For my rig when I try animation, I just make a cage with studs on the bottom and create the rig when the scene comes.

Is the cage stable? I'd be interested in seeing it, if you don't mind posting a photo.

Re: Teh Rig Thread

Unfortunately, my other camera has miserable quality, s I can't guarantee good shots, but I can try.

Re: Teh Rig Thread

Sorry to bump, this is the last updated thread I could find about camera rigs in general (not wanting to create a new thread). My dad ordered me a new device that can help a lot (note: don't order things if you don't know where it comes from. It seems that this came directly from China and took forever to ship)
Because the Webcam Pro 9000 (or all other webcams) do not have optical zoom, the only option is digital. This can greatly decrease from the quality. In my rig, I have a clamp on camera mount (from grandparent's basement, my dad's when he was a kid), and the zoom piece that was ordered. A few modifications to the webcam, and a nut was taped onto the end, so it could be mounted to a camera mount.
Here, it's completely zoomed out.

Zoomed in.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7145/6523 … 360f_b.jpg
And here demonstrates the ability to have various angles, using the webcam's function to maneuver into different positions.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7010/6523 … 96d4_b.jpg
It's quite sturdier than it looks in these photos.
With this rig, I now have an easier way to attempt a vertigo dolly zoom (which still involves the digital zoom though). It's also quite easier to pan in multiple directions, plus a 'shaky camera' effect.
