Topic: A Mime Animation- Test Sequences

On this topic I will post any tests or updates about those tests here. All tests sequences are for my mime animation (Le Mime). Copyright 2010.

Links to new tests will be listed here, as well as included in a new post below.

Test Two
Test Three

Test Sequence 1: WALK
LINK

Its a bit short! I'll try to make more than two steps next time. But from that, how is it? Still a bit shaky, I think.

This is the link, apparently: THE LINK!!! mini/bigsmile

Re: A Mime Animation- Test Sequences

Bit hard to judge since he only takes 2 steps. But so far the animation looks pretty smooth, perhaps limit the movement of the arms though, as they make him appear to be marching rather than walking.

Re: A Mime Animation- Test Sequences

first get rid of all those time code burns.

second the arms move wayyy to much.

third the most important part of the body is the head, that what our eyes look at - and yours is bobbing around uncontrollably.

Re: A Mime Animation- Test Sequences

Thanks for posting the link- updated the top post.

I agree, the arms did move to much, as well as the head. And I will animate a longer sequence soon.

Those time codes help me, though, but I'll post it without them on YouTube.

Test Sequence 2: WALK- with no arm movement
LINK

This time I only animated the leg movement. I also included a lot more footage. I KNOW there are some light flicker.
It's still a bit too fast, so next time I'll double the frames for one step.

Odd, I even tried to imitate exactly what Mobiledeli created, frame for frame, in one of his tests, yet still mine is jerky and fast... mini/confused

Test Sequence 3- MOVEMENT- no legs
LINK

Ugghhh. Still way too fast. I'm going to try to increase the frame rate to match 24 tomorrow. Not tonight.

Re: A Mime Animation- Test Sequences

test 2 i still processing..... mini/sad but 3 works fine- try reducing light flicker

Re: A Mime Animation- Test Sequences

Test Sequence 4: 15fps- using the same footage
LINK

This time I took the footage from Sequence 2 and 3 and rerendered it in 15fps- look at the difference. This animation is smoother than I've ever done before. I'll try 24fps a couple more times, but if they're still bad, I'll use 15fps for "Le Mime."

Re: A Mime Animation- Test Sequences

You need to work on your lighting a bit, there are many flickers. Also, the animation is a bit fast, you may want to make smaller increments.

Re: A Mime Animation- Test Sequences

eek! test 2 and 4 are still being processed.... maybe i can view them on your channel
EDIt- nope- they don't show up

Re: A Mime Animation- Test Sequences

Sorry about the processing thing, guys. I really want you BiMers to see the Test 4- and tell me what you think.
About the light flicker, if you haven't noticed I'm filming on my desk which is right next to a window. My actual set is in the dark basement, so don't worry about light problems for the tests. I'll still try to minimize them, though.

Re: A Mime Animation- Test Sequences

yay! they work. i like number 4 the best

Re: A Mime Animation- Test Sequences

yeah, I think you should just use 15 fps, I don't think 24 would be that much better, especially since you have to be really perfect at it in order for it to look good.

Re: A Mime Animation- Test Sequences

Yeah, I think I'm just not ready for 24fps. I'll try to perfect 15fps instead. More tests to come!

Re: A Mime Animation- Test Sequences

Where did you get the test dummy and mime?
By the way good job although al your tests are a bit fast.

I would like to be able to admire a man’s opinions as I would his dog - without being expected to take it home with me.

Re: A Mime Animation- Test Sequences

As everyone else said, the tests are too fast. I would first, like you said, perfect 15FPS, then perhaps move up to 20FPS. I use that now, and it's good practice before you move up to 24.
